Appropriately named, this innovative itinerary covers many of north India’s 'gems'. The first is the mighty Taj Mahal in Agra, which we take our time to savour before visiting the excellent Agra Fort. Sadly, the next highlight is one that is becoming increasingly rare - the Bengal tiger, although we are hopeful of spotting one in Bandhavgarh National Park.
Fortunately, our visit is in a small way helping to preserve the tiger as it injects some much-needed money into the national park. The ‘Pink City’ of Jaipur is next and here we visit the imposing Amber Fort and the Palace of the Winds. We may well find the most valuable 'jewels' in the small town of Nimaj. A charming little rural place, we stay in a magnificent palace that is run by the 23rd descendent of the region’s original ruler. Another remote place, Jojawar, is sure to be a favourite for photographers. Rajasthani women in full regalia, brilliant sunsets and cobblestone alleyways all combine to set a wonderful scene. Udaipur is a romantic as well as beautiful city and we have plenty of time to visit its palaces and enjoy a nice drink as the sun sets over Lake Pichola. Our adventure ends in Delhi, where we enjoy a final night out to relive our adventures.
